Traditional Diagnostic Methods

Bian Que Concave–Convex Pulse Assessment

Build an introductory framework for pulse examination by simplifying the study of concave and convex pulse presentations at the cun, guan, and chi positions, from five-zang localization to deficiency-excess assessment.

About This Course

Course Introduction

Bian Que Concave–Convex Pulse Assessment, taught by Instructor Wang Long, is an introductory pulse course within the Bian Que medical system. Rather than relying on complex memorization of twenty-eight pulse types, it trains learners to understand deficiency, excess, obstruction, and insufficiency through the cun, guan, and chi positions and concave-convex sensations. Its sequence is to identify guan using the prominent bone, locate cun-guan-chi in order, and then distinguish concavity and convexity. This breaks abstract pulse sensations into a clearer practical pathway. It offers beginners an initial pulse framework and practitioners a supplement to diagnostic and formula-prescribing reasoning.

Learn Step by Step

What You Will Learn

  • You will study foundational Bian Que medical theory, pulse-method theory, finger techniques, and guiding principles. Learn the basic correspondence of heart, liver, and kidney yin on the left wrist and lung, spleen, and kidney yang on the right; the states represented by concave and convex pulses; and how pulse appearances connect with five-zang identification.

  • The course studies twelve directions: exuberant heart fire, liver qi constraint, kidney yin cold, lung qi constraint, spleen qi constraint, kidney yang hyperactivity, heart blood deficiency, liver blood deficiency, kidney yin deficiency, lung qi deficiency, spleen qi deficiency and kidney yang deficiency. Learners gradually connect pulse assessment with pattern-differentiation reasoning.

Learning Experiences

Student Feedback

I used to think pulse assessment required many years of study. Concave–convex pulse assessment at least showed me where to palpate first and how to begin an assessment.
Ms. Wang / Student in Malaysia
★★★★★
The instructor clearly explains locating guan from the bony landmark and locating cun, guan, and chi, which is helpful for complete beginners.
Kelvin Ho / Singapore learner
★★★★☆
It takes repeated hands-on practice, but the framework is clear and suitable for an introduction to pulse assessment.
